Luke 2:10-11 (ESV)

And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Talk About It

Imagine how surprised the shepherds were when the angel appeared to them! They weren’t important or famous, but God wanted them to be the first to hear about Jesus’ birth. The angel called it “good news of great joy for all people.” Just like Ebenezer Scrooge’s heart changed in A Christmas Carol, Jesus came so anyone—no matter who—can be changed by God’s love. Christmas is more than gifts or decorations; it’s God’s rescue plan to save us and make our lives new. Jesus was born because God loves us and wants to be close to us. When we trust and follow Jesus, He changes our lives and gives us joy and hope to share.

For Parents to Explain

Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus with good news for everyone. Help us remember Your love and let it change our hearts.

Family Activities

Good News Christmas Cards

  1. Decorate a card or paper with joyful Christmas images—angels, shepherds, or the manger.
  2. Inside, write or draw the “good news” about Jesus.
  3. Give the card to someone who might feel left out or needs encouragement.
  4. Talk together about how sharing good news helps others feel loved.

Shepherd Search

  1. Hide a small sheep or nativity figure somewhere in your home.
  2. Take turns being the “shepherd” who searches for the good news.
  3. After it’s found, read Luke 2:10-11 together.
  4. Share one way each person can show Jesus’ love to someone this week.

Family Prayer

Go around and thank God for Jesus. Ask God to help your family share His good news with someone this week.
